MEET YOUR GUIDE

JONATHAN GAY

Behind every great adventure is a guide who knows the land not by a map, but by heart.

As a Registered Maine Guide with triple certifications in Hunting, Fishing, and Recreation, Jonathan Gay has spent a lifetime navigating the rugged "Airline" corridor and the sprawling blueberry barrens of Washington County.

Jonathan's path to guiding was forged not only by this deep local connection but also by nearly two decades of military service. Before joining the Maine Air National Guard, Jonathan served as an infantry Marine, completing multiple deployments to Southeast Asia and Fallujah, Iraq.

Having led his Marines through the world's most demanding environments—from dense rainforests to harsh deserts and steep mountain ranges—he developed a profound appreciation for the restorative silence found back home on a Downeast trout pond.

Today, Jonathan’s guiding philosophy is rooted in the timeless traditions of the Maine woods: a deep respect for the resource, an unwavering commitment to safety, and the belief that the best fishing is always found a little further than most are willing to go.

Whether he is paddling a canoe through a secluded flowage, teaching a beginner to cast a fly, or leading a snowmobile convoy to a frozen backcountry pond, Jonathan’s goal is to provide an authentic, grit-meets-grace experience that stays with you long after the gear is packed away

Following Their Footsteps

The woods and waters I guide today aren’t new to my family. My grandfather and great-grandfather both worked as guides in Downeast Maine, helping others experience this place long before I had the chance.

In many ways, I’m still following their footsteps—sharing the same ground, the same traditions, and the same respect for what makes this part of Downeast Maine special.
